You might not know Judy Greer's name right off the bat but you certainly remember her performances as the acerbic sidekick in movies like 'The Wedding Planner' and '27 Dresses,' and of course TV viewers got an eyeful of her as the flash-happy secretary/mistress on 'Arrested Development.' These days the 35-year-old comedic actress is co-starring in CBS' 'Mad Love' with Jason Biggs and Sarah Chalke, and oh yes she just wrapped a movie with George Clooney. Greer talked to
PopEater about starring opposite him, "gross" (she's kidding!) and her girl crush on Sigourney Weaver.
You often play the sidekick.
I like to be anywhere from 3 to 5 on the call sheet because you get the funniest jokes, the best lines and you don't have to go to work every single day. If you're on location you get to explore the city you're shooting in. I think its fun to be the one who's like, 'Hey dumbass what do you think you're doing?' which I feel I always get to say which is awesome.
Who is your favorite person to work with ever? Working with Sigourney Weaver was pretty f**king awesome. I mean she's Ripley and she's classy and she's funny and she's weird and she's thoughtful. I was like I want to hang out with her all the time and be like her because she has this business and how to be awesome and have a family. So I would say she's the most inspiring person.
Teenage girls must love you because of '27 Dresses' and '13 Going on 30.'
Yeah yeah and 'The Wedding Planner.' Also teenagers watch things over and over again.
Hello, not just teenagers. I do that.
Yeah I can't turn off 'Overboard' when it's on.
Has there been a week where TBS hasn't played one of your movies?
One time a friend of mine put my name in TIVO and he's like, 'Dude you've got more movies on this week than Jack Nicholson.' Oh my God, so weird.
You just shot a movie ('The Descendants') with George Clooney. Yuck.
I know he's gross, it was gross. Actually in an embarrassment of riches it was my second time working with George Clooney. The first time was 'Three Kings.' I was so green, I was just starting out and I didn't know what I was doing. The scene we had to do was very awkward for me; anyway he was such a nice guy.
Did you have a make out scene?
We have sex.The first time you see his character we're having sex. That was so awkward for me. Hopefully you can't tell. I mean it was awesome but I was thinking what am I doing here with George Clooney? I've been watching him since f**king Facts of Life! That being said, seeing him again to do 'The Descendants' was just so awesome. I felt like I'd come really far since I saw him last.
So you had sex for real this time?
(Laughs) we did have to kiss in this movie but it's all weird and awkward.
If you say to me you're pregnant with his child this interview will go viral.
I know I should say something like that and have my publicist retract it.
So tell me about 'Mad Love.'
It's awesome. It's about two couples finding love in New York City in two different ways. My character is going to take a really long time to find love.
Do you ever tell your neighbors when your show is on?
I don't generally talk to my neighbors that often. On one side they always watch what I do and they trim my hedge. Except once I was riding home on an airplane, I'd just done Letterman and I was so excited about it. I was flying high, both literally and figuratively and the guy next to me told me his wife was a really big fan. I was like, 'Well I'm going to be on Letterman tonight.' I'd never done that before. He was just so nice and I was so excited that I plugged myself.
'Mad Love' airs Mondays on CBS at 8:30 ET.
What's your favorite TV show?
I'm obsessed with 'Gossip Girl.' I watch it religiously every week. I used to also be obsessed with
'Law & Order.' When I go home to visit my parents as soon as the first opening part of 'Law & Order' comes on we scream out which episode it is.
What household chore do you hate doing?
Dishes. My dishwasher has been broken for three years.
So why don't you get it fixed?
Yes that does seem like the logical thing to do. I've had different repairmen out to fix it and they all say different things.
Let me put this out there ? how about springing for a new dishwasher?
You're right. You see I'm lazy about dishes in all aspects. I'm too lazy to even get a dishwasher. I think my cleaning lady is about to quit, she's like, 'seriously, really?'
