Is Kate Middleton Marrying the Next King?Or Totally Not?

Is Prince William the heir to the throne? Is that why this royal wedding is such a big deal?
?DesiLuv, via the inbox

Sorry, but don't look for Prince William to take the big chair anytime soon. Yes, there are some indications that the British public would love to see Kate Middleton become a fairy-tale-inspired Barbie queen with an equally merch-friendly king. And in fact a new poll by Panelbase indicates that more than half of the United Kingdom want Prince William to take the crown next.

In contrast, about 40 percent want Will's father, Prince Charles, to succeed Queen Elizabeth II.

Trouble is...

READ THIS: The Queen is not amused!

The royal succession isn't subject to a vote. That's why it's called a monarchy. They're royalty, bitches!

These people hold the crown and scepter, and don't you dare turn your back in their presence, and who gets the throne next is a matter of tradition, not popularity.

According to said tradition, the heir to the throne is always a first-born boy.

That first-born boy takes precedence, even if he has an older sister. If that heir has a son, that son jumps to the head of the line just behind his dad?regardless if the dad has any siblings or not. If a second son is born, that kid is considered the spare, the next in line.

So the current succession goes like this:

1. The current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II

2. Prince Charles

3. Prince William

4. Will's younger brother, Harry

5. Then comes Chuck's younger brother, Andrew

6. and 7. And his kids?Beatrice and Eugenie

8. Followed by the Charles's next youngest sibling, Edward, his progeny, and so on and so on.

Sound misogynistic and generally out of touch? It is.

In fact British leaders have eyeballed changing the law so that women wouldn't face such discrimination, but it's unclear whether such upgrades might ever come to pass.

In the meantime, Chuck has shown no signs of giving up his right to the crown; for the time being, poor, poor Will must settle for being merely a prince.

AWESOME PICS! More hunky royal hotties!

  • DWTS got right down to business on Tuesday's elimination show: Ralph Macchio and Hines Ward were deemed safe. No surprise there.

But then Chelsea Kane and USA TODAY blogger Mark Ballas, the highest scoring couple of Monday night's performance show, were said to be - gasp! - in jeopardy.

Adding insult to injury, they were asked to dance an encore of their energetic Harry Potter-themed Viennese waltz.

Slim and sexy Jennifer Hudson, dressed in purple heels and a short purple dress, helped fill the hour with two songs. And sister ballet stars Lorena and Lorna Feijoo performed a special routine from Swan Lake with Jose Manuel Carreno of the American Ballet Theatre.

So who was sent home? Did Kendra Wilkinson, who was at the bottom of the pack after Monday night, survive?

First, Chris Jericho and Romeo were sent to safety, while Petra Nemcova was told she was in jeopardy.

Then came Kirstie Alley - safe.

And Kendra Wilkinson? Pro dancer Louis van Amstel was seen in footage from Monday night telling his partner he was "quite dispapointed with her comment" about not caring about being elegant. "I'm so embarrassed," Kendra was shown saying. And then she was deemed safe!

    Petra was also safe.

It came down to Chelsea Kane and Sugar Ray Leonard.

"We're at the time of year where this really starts to sting," said host Tom Bergeron.

And the smiling boxing champ was sent home. Aww."That's life," said Leonard. "I will cherish this moment. ... Great friends, great people, great show."

    Leo?s Got A New Wing Man: Jay-Z!

Don't worry, Beyonce! He was on his best behavior!

On Monday night, Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted at the Supper Club in Chelsea, shortly after Jay-Z arrived with a group of his friends. It didn't take long for the two Hollywood heavyweights to cross paths and according to sources at the hot spot, they ended up chilling with each other all night!

The duo reportedly got a booth, kicked back with the Johnny Walker Black Label and just shot the breeze until 2:30 AM, when Leo peaced out. Jay, however, stuck around until after 3 AM before heading home.

    Such party animals! LOLZ!

Nigel Lythgoe Says Pia Toscano's Idol Elimination Was Fair and Square

It's been almost a week since Pia Toscano was eliminated from American Idol, and the rumor mill is still going strong that it was rigged. Fingers have been pointed at the show's executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, whom many are saying orchestrated the shocking loss in an attempt to generate drama and suspense.

As Idol fans demand a recount of votes and insist they will never watch the show again, Nigel spoke out Tuesday at the HRTS Newsmakers Luncheon Series about Idol's voting system and why the exact number of votes each contestant receives is kept from viewers...

"There are always conspiracy theories, but you know we are so careful," Nigel said. "[Voting is] done through AT&T and we get the results. It's done so openly. We've got all the terrible things happening around the world with Libya, with Japan and what's everyone talking about? 'How did Pia get voted off?'"

While many think Pia was put in the eliminated position for ratings, Nigel laughed off the idea that the show's objective is to build up hopeful singers only to pull the rug out from under them.

"We really do root for them. It's the first time [Pia] sang an up-tempo song. All the judges were saying sing an up tempo song. We have a reinvigoration of the series that I think we are at a time where we need to help these kids get out of their mundane lives and become stars. And I think the judges now are really urging them and pushing them though."

Nigel also went on to explain why viewers will never know the exact number of votes each contestant receives. "Let's take the Carrie Underwood season. Carrie Underwood won every single week," he said. "You show the vote and the show is over. There's no jeopardy if you're watching somebody win every single week."

While Idol does their best to buffer their tarnished reputation as a legitimate singing contest, NBC's The Voice is right around the corner making many wonder if Idol feels threatened by some healthy competition. Nigel candidly gave his opinion and is brushing The Voice off as another normal mentoring show.

"After the initial stage of that, the gag's over," he said.  "I mean that's it. Once you've chosen your people, you know what they look like and then it's straight mentoring. I don't know the program, but the concept is you choose the voice by not seeing them. So you can pick a Susan Boyle?Shrek's older sister, you can pick the voice and then you mentor that person. So once that first initial week is over, then it becomes a normal mentoring show."

Nigel is confident in the staying power of Idol, calling it: "social glue." "I think it's been so obvious this week it's social glue," he said. "When your television program becomes the social glue that everyone wants to be talking about it, that's the power of your show."

What do you think of American Idol's voting system? Are you going to watch this week? Do you think The Voice will outshine Idol? Let us know in the comments!
