Toyota confirms sportscar return By Steven English Friday, December 3rd 2010, 10:20 GMT Toyota has confirmed that it will return to the sportscar arena next season as engine supplier to Rebellion Racing's LMP1 effort, as revealed by AUTOSPORT magazine in September. The move will be the first direct motorsport involvement for the German-based Toyota Motorsport outfit since it withdrew from Formula 1 at the end of 2009. Democrats and Republicans agree on higher gas taxes, just not in public all the time

Senator Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles
Senator Alan Simpson (left) and Erskine Bowles (right), Co-Chairman of the Deficit Reduction Commission

There is a sport in Washington D.C. that comes around like deer season every year: the gas tax debate. And stepping into the clearing this week with brown overcoats and deer antler hats are some former legislators and government officials - none of whom have to run for office - who are recommending a 15-cent additional federal gas tax starting in 2013 to help trim the federal budget deficit.

This measure has about as much chance of getting through the new Congress as a proclamation that would make Earth Day a national bank holiday. Still, given the fact that the Feds have laid a claim to my nine-year old son's unborn children's piggybanks, it's worth a few minutes to air out the subject.

The co-chairman of the bipartisan deficit reduction commission, former Clinton Administration official Erskine Bowles and former Republican Senator Alan Simpson, have called for a sweeping set of reforms in the way of taxes, spending cuts and elimination of a myriad of tax credits and deductions to which we have grown accustomed - mortgage interest for one.
The 15-cent per gallon hike in Federal gas taxes is paltry by European standards, but would be used specifically for transportation infrastructure improvement: roads, bridges, etc.

My F1 2010 season review

I've been watching grand prix racing since before World War II and I can honestly say I have never seen a season with more excitement, drama and intrigue than 2010. This is my review of the year in which Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull team really came of age.

Lexus IS

The Lexus IS started its life back in 1998, but after 12 years of existence the only thing this car is seeing is a small facelift for the 2011 model year. This may all change, however, because we are now hearing that this luxury sedan will be coming into its third generation in 2014.

To set up the stage a little, we’re going to talk a little about the Toyota FT-86, which we all know is the sports car developed in cooperation with Subaru that has been delayed quite a few times now. However, the FT-86 is not only about this sports coupe, or about the baby model rumored to be based on it. Rumors suggest that the next generation Lexus IS will also share the same platform with the FT-86 and that it will in fact be a four-door version of the future sports car. The design will also be inspired by the FT-86, but under the hood there will be a totally different engine.

Hit the jump to find out more details on the third generation Lexus IS.
