The inner workings of Hollywood are a perpetual mystery, particularly when film scheduling is involved. The normal filmmaking, script-to-screen process is, in a nutshell, basic: Script is written, produced, filmed, edited, promoted — and voila! It hits theaters. But as many beleaguered writers/producers/directors/actors know, things don't always go so smoothly.
Take, for example, the comedy "Take Me Home Tonight" (formerly titled "Kids in America"), which stars Topher Grace (who's also executive producer), Ana Faris, Dan Fogler, Teresa Palmer and Michelle Trachtenberg. Not exactly an indie, no-name cast, and yet the film completed principal photography in late 2006/ early 2007 and is just now getting released.
When MTV News caught up with Grace recently, we asked him to take us through the producing process that finally led to its release date.
"[The film came from] this idea that every generation had a film that looked about 20 years back," Grace said, adding the fact that no one had captured the spirit of the '80s in film without making fun of the decade. "We wanted to do something that felt like it was literally made in the '80s. So, we brought this to a different studio, and they were very supportive when they made the film, so we're very grateful for that."
What slowed down the process from there, Grace explained, was a hesitation from the studio with several scenes that involve cocaine use. "It tested really well," he said. "It's an audience film. It's not drama, but there was a real hesitation because there is so much cocaine in it, and our feeling at the time was, 'You can't do a movie about Prohibition without alcohol, and you really can't do a movie about partying in the '80s, at the age these kids are, without showing cocaine use."
Lucky for Grace and his producing partner Gordon Kaywin, the film received new life at Imagine Entertainment, via veteran producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.
"We had fun producing, but those guys are the real deal," Grace said of Howard and Grazer. "We learned a lot from them, and they're probably the greatest producers of our time. So, they encouraged us to not change the cut, which I thought was a really cool move."
Grace also credited Ryan Kavanaugh, the CEO of Relativity Media (the studio that is now releasing the film), with understanding and helping execute their original idea.
"He understood that you can't make a movie like 'Dazed and Confused' if it doesn't have pot in it," Grace said. "You just can't; it doesn't ring true. It's not that real thing we talk about, and he and his team embraced it, and that's the film we got to see."
The former "That '70s Show" star said he's thrilled with the final result.
"We're so happy with the film. It's creatively exactly what we wanted, and it's exactly the opposite of the normal situation where stuff gets cut," he said. "[For us] it was the opposite: We got to put stuff back in."

Singer's spot for Heat is not to air before 7:30 p.m. due to its 'sexually provocative' imagery.

Whether through her music videos or concerts, Beyoncé has always used her sex appeal as part of her pop-star allure. But is she too sexy? The U.K.'s Advertising Standards Authority thinks so. The singer's television spot for her fragrance, Heat, was recently banned from daytime rotation due to its "sexually provocative" imagery.
In a statement posted on its website, the advertising watchdog said that it has received several complaints about the spot, which was aired throughout the day during family programming and will now only be shown after 7:30 p.m. While the organization noted that the ad was unlikely to harm an older audience, it deemed the spot unsuitable for all-ages viewing. "We considered that Beyoncé's body movements and the camera's prolonged focus on shots of her dress slipping away to partially expose her breasts created a sexually provocative ad that was unsuitable to be seen by young children," the ASA said.
In the Jake Nava-directed commercial, Beyoncé plays a seductive temptress, meandering about a steamy room. As she makes her way around the area, the singer croons Little Willie John's 1956 classic "Fever."
While she remains dressed, the star's silky red dress holds close to her curves and exposes partial cleavage.
Coty UK, the company behind the fragrance, responded to the criticism, explaining that the TV spot was in line with the singer's "sexy chic style," artistically shot and consistent with many music videos.
Last year, the pop star spoke about the perfume's advertisement in an interview with WWD. "It's called Heat, so we wanted the ads to be really steamy and dewy," said the singer. "My sexiest moments are when I'm just getting out of the tub or the shower and I'm clean, so I wanted to incorporate that in the ads. The dress was this liquid-y satin. The song 'Fever' I did years ago and always loved it. [For the commercial] I got to sing it a bit more whispery, more natural."

When Antoine Dodson came to his sister's defense against a home intruder, who could have possibly guessed this would be the outcome?
This summer Dodson became an overnight Internet sensation when his lively local news interview (and warning to his sister's alleged attempted rapist) about the incident went viral on YouTube.
The clip has been viewed over 25 million times and the music video/remix (also known as "The Bed Intruder Song") was an even bigger sensation, with over 54 million(!) hits on YouTube. The song (which Dodson and his family received earnings from) not only topped the iTunes charts, but even cracked the Billboard Hot 100 in August.
Now, months later, it seems Dodson still has his eye out for unwelcome guests. In a skit for Lopez Tonight, everybody's favorite Lincoln Park resident had some strong words of warning for arguably the world's most famous "intruder": Santa Claus!
Dodson, wearing the same black tank top that helped make him so famous in the first place (though he traded the red bandanna for a Santa hat and his hair is noticeably longer!), has likely created another viral vid with "Chimney Intruder."
The 24-year-old warns, in a very familiar tone, "Well, obviously we have someone coming to Lincoln Park, he's climbin' in your chimneys, he's snatchin' your cookies up, tryin' to eat 'em. So ya'll need to hide your gifts, hide your trees...and hide your eggnog, cause he's takin' everything up in here!"
Watch the entire clip below and decide if you think it's ho-ho-hilarious, or, "so dumb, so dumb":
Do you think Antoine Dodson's fifteen minutes of fame are up or are you still cracking up over the "Bed Intruder"? Chime in below!

ATLANTA — As the debate among teen girls rages on about whether Justin Bieber is dating his tourmate, Disney princess Selena Gomez, the megastar teen is confident about one thing: Gomez's awesomeness.
MTV News caught up with the 16-year-old sensation as he got the word out about his holiday toy-collecting campaign, "Stuff Bieber's Bus," in Atlanta on Thursday (December 23), and while he didn't suggest that the two were more than friends, he did gush a little bit about the "Wizards of Waverly Place" actress.
"She's really cool," Bieber said. "She's an amazing person."
The "Baby" singer also commented about the nonstop fan frenzy and media mania that accompany any rumors about who the Biebs is or is not dating, and said that despite his outsize fame, he plans to keep his private life private.
"I think that people are always gonna be interested in my personal life ... but I gotta keep some things to myself," he said of the constant buzz surrounding his relationship with Gomez. "I'm just having fun being a teenager."
Speculation that the fresh-faced duo are more than friends has ramped up ever since the two were spotted hanging out and getting pancakes arm-in-arm. However, Gomez has batted away rumors that she and the "Somebody to Love" crooner are anything more than buddies who occasionally enjoy getting a bite to eat.
"It was pancakes. Who doesn't like pancakes?" Gomez told MTV News earlier this month.
Gomez has also talked about her "brotherly" relationship with Bieber, saying that she tries to keep an eye out for him as he continues to skyrocket toward megastardom.
"I love Justin. When he first started to come over from Canada, his manager contacted me and he just said that he would like to meet me and he was just such a good kid," she told MTV News in February. "And I feel like a big sister now, 'cause I want to protect him. So I'm always very cautious with him, but he is so talented and he's so sweet, so that just started us wanting to work together. Now he's just become one of my good friends."
