The Simpsons' Take Aim At Oscars, Pixar And 'Wallace And Gromit

Imitation may be the highest form of flattery, but we've got to imagine winning an Oscar is a close second. In which case, Nick Park, the creator of the "Wallace and Gromit" films, can now officially consider himself one of the most flattered guys out there: Park, as well as the fellow Oscar-magnet folks at [...]

The Monkees Touring This Summer

I loved The Monkees. No, I LOVED The Monkees. I wasn't alive when the foursome—the American answer to The Beatles—ruled the television and music charts in the '60s, but I was around when their eponymous television series aired on Nick at Nite in the '80s. I watched every night and always had a philosophical debate about whether I had a bigger crush on Davey Jones (the sensitive, British guy) or Micky Dolenz (the quirky drummer/singer). So I am pretty ecstatic that the band will be touring the UK to celebrate their 45th anniversary. And look, it kicks off on my birthday—May 12! Davey and Micky are both on board for the tour, as is Peter Tork—only Mike Nesmith opted not to be a part of the event. I might even possibly go to London for this. Maybe. [UPI]

Following Lady Gaga's performance of "Born This Way" at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, fans are wondering what they will see in the Nick Knight-directed music video for the feel-good disco track.

"I can't tell you, but I will tell you it is a life-changing experience," Gaga's choreographer Laurieanne Gibson said on MTV's "The Seven." "You can expect the highest level of execution in vocal music art and dance ... but you will be shocked."

Gibson didn't say whether the video would be an extension of Gaga's performance of Sunday night, but she did go into further detail about what she and Gaga and the entire Haus of Gaga had in mind when conceiving the idea of her hatching from an egg on the Grammy stage.

"Well, actually it's a vessel. When Gaga played me the record, it took me quite some time to feel the direction and the inspiration, and when she played it for me two weeks later, I was like, 'I think I got it.' I said, 'We have to birth a new race, a race that cannot hate.' And, of course, as genius as she is, she runs with it."

Gaga revealed that she spent 72 hours inside the vessel, and Gibson explained that precautions were taken to make sure she'd be safe in there. "We made sure the Lady was not suffocating with an oxygen tank in there while incubating, checking her new DNA, which was producing this new race," she explained. "This race does not give up and does not give in.

"When you try to break this performance down, it minimizes the message," she added. "It's about the vocal performance while dancing the amazing choreography. It feels like a standalone dance piece, a standalone theatrical moment. The organ that was our church moment, our freeing moment, a call to arms."

Hours before reviving her long-running Monster Ball Tour in Atlantic City, New Jersey, recently, Lady Gaga gave Rolling Stone magazine a sneak peek at four songs off her upcoming Born This Way album ... and from the sound of things, she's not only pushing the boundaries, she's borrowing from some of the best in the business.

For example, E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons, who lends his prodigious skronk to a pair of the songs — "Edge of Glory" and "Hair" — or Nine Inch Nails, circa Trent Reznor's Broken era (on "Hair," which also apparently draws inspiration from '80s singer Pat Benatar's "We Belong" and the inspirational, all-encompassing lyrics of LG's own "Born This Way"). Another song, "Judas," which is set to be the second single off Born This Way, is described by Rolling Stone writer Matthew Perpetua as "a classic Lady Gaga pop banger," with a "thumping, house music breakdown" and a vocal hook "that borrows a bit of Rihanna's distinctive cadence."

"Edge" is "a massive power ballad with heavy club beats" that also contains "an element of cheesiness" and an "Eighties stadium rock vibe." "Scheiée" — a remix of which Gaga actually debuted last month at a fashion show in Paris — contains flavors of '90s dance hits by the likes of C&C Music Factory, Snap! and RuPaul, and a chorus that "vaguely" recalls Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger." And "Hair" features LG proudly proclaiming "I am my hair!" for reasons unknown.

On Friday, Gaga's "Born This Way" officially became the fastest-selling song in iTunes history, having blown past the million-download mark in just five days. The song is also #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and sits atop the charts in 23 different countries. The video is reportedly set to premiere this week.

Gaga's Born This Way album is due May 23.
